When a nationally known gay activist "warned" me not to associate with Nelson Garcia, the blogger know as NG, here was the proof I was offered:

The website is Americans For Truth About Homosexuality. It's run by Peter La Barbera, a conservative "Christian" hatemonger who has also called for all people with HIV to be locked up in internment camps.
If NG really is a "dangerous pedophile", then I want to see actual proof, not the rantings
of a Jesus freak whose only goal is to take rights away from LGBT people.
That a gay activist would consider La Barbera's anti-gay hate as "proof" of another gay man's "guilt" is not only shocking, it's typical of how some of our more famous "activists", and many of our gay rights groups, have conducted themselves for the better part of 30 years.
And that's why we still don't have full equality.
No wonder NG & I sometimes get so angry: look what we have to put up with from our "own people".

What's ironic about this is that this is a personal matter that occurred in 2003 and 2004. I've already accepted responsibility for my actions and done the time for the crime.
And let's be honest about what NG's actions were:
looking at pre-existing photos he had nothing to do with the production of and chatting on a message board: not actual sexual activity.
This is the same thing that Pee Wee Herman was prosecuted for.
I've seen the the 1978film Pretty Baby, in which a then 12 year old
Brooke Shields plays a prostitute and appears nude~~this film was released by Paramount Pictures and co-stars Susan Sarandon.
Should I serve jail time for watching it?
If I did, then many of those who condemn NG would be sitting in the prisn cell with me.
Nelson, aka NG, served his time and was released. No further charges have been brought against him.
Shame on those who won't stop rubbing his face in it.

NG is a class 1 offender. That means he's considered low risk and does not need to register as an offender for life.
He shouldn't have to register at all~~all he did was read a magazine and post on a message board.
He has since publicly
renounced these actions~~at his blog he has repeatedly shown himself to be a fine writer who cares deeply for LGBT rights.
Let's leave him be.
Ir is OUTRAGEUOS that a respected gay activist with a prominent news web-site would
1) Smear anyone in the community....he's done his time....for looking at nude pics(?)
2) Cite a rabidly homophobic fundie "news" source....can't he dig just a little deeper and consider his sources?
What the hell!
We are in a culture war, where lives are at stake, and children suffer.
We need to ask the people who wallow like mud-obsessed piggies in trivial matters (like NG's personal past) some questions:
"Whose ARMY do you empowering when you attack our side"?
"What could you have done with that time instead to help us?"
